Earn your Driver Education Behind-the-Wheel authorization in our accelerated Driver Education Program. Any qualified individual 25 years or older may earn the Driver and Safety Education Behind-the-Wheel Endorsement by successfully completing this two-part course.
The course consists of two online classes. This is part two. Part one was Behind-the-Wheel Theory.
The second class is Driver Education Behind-the-Wheel Practicum. This course will prepare you to become a behind the wheel instructor through observation of students and the opportunity to teach real students with an approved mentor instructor. You will learn how to develop driving routes and how to implement driving skills through the students learning process.
9 hours of observations Behind-the-Wheel and 6 hours of Student Teaching Behind-the-Wheel.   
This course does NOT qualify instructor candidate to be an endorsed driver’s education classroom instructor.  You must be 25 years old to be State of Iowa certified as a Behind the Wheel Instructor. 
This class has to be taken concurrently with DED 3360, BTW Theory.

Please read:  Once you have registered the instructor will contact you for a by phone orientation and get you started in the class. This class has to be taken concurrently with DED 3360, BTW Theory, please make sure you have signed up for both classes. To maintain course proficiency of learning, there will be an added cost to the Practicum course paid directly to the instructor for fees associated with student teaching. The course instructor must travel to the student’s location and one or more of these fees may be charged; round trip mileage, overnight accommodations and food per diem. Note: the course instructor will not charge labor, only transportation expenses. All student teaching will be done in the course instructor’s driver education vehicle and all students and instruction will be covered under the course instructors liability insurance. Student teaching involves working with the course instructor during the student teaching phase of the course. Student teaching must involve the course instructor. Students will need to find teen students for the student teaching phase. The student driving instructor must complete a minimum of 6 hours of student teaching. Observations must be with an approved driving school. The course instructor must approve the observations. If observations are completed without approval of the course instructor, the observations will be nullified. Course must be completed within 18 weeks of enrollment. Questions should be sent to the course instructor.
